Judge Bans Woman From Twitter

How to lose your First Amendment rights:

A suburban Philadelphia woman has been banned from using Twitter as part of her sentence for a stalking conviction.
Montgomery County Judge William Carpenter barred 34-year-old Sadiyyah Young of Pottstown from tweeting for at least five years.
Authorities say Young used derogatory and harassing tweets against people involved in a custody case regarding her children, including a judge who ruled against her, lawyers, social workers and foster parents.
The monthlong battle included a tweet that read, in part: “Somebody should pay all these people a visit, bust out windows and cut tires!”

She also got sentenced to a year in jail. There are some behaviors that cannot be justified in the name of free speech and, as I advised Bill Schmalfeldt seven months ago, harassment is not journalism.

11½ to 23 months in jail. Looks to me like she’s got exactly one chance to learn her lesson, because once she’s out, she’ll have three to four years during which she can’t use Twitter; think she can stay off it?

I guess that we’ll find out if she’s smarter than #FreeKate.

Too bad Schmalfeldt and Rauhauser are not facing that judge.

I am all for constitutional rights (I am very much a libertarian in that regard)–but you can lose those rights if you abuse them.

Ah, Deb Frisch redux. She was told she could not use a computer for five years; it has allowed quite a lot of peace and quiet for residents of Oregon.

I guess it’s only illegal to cyberstalk public employees, they are of the protected class.

I’ve been restlessly stalked by my deranged (and liberal as well) sister for eight years apparently that isn’t illegal either. And she is also public employee and some of her cyber harassment has been right from her work computer.

As with most mentally ill person she recruits other loons to help her on Facebook or Twitter

Pottstown PA is 32 miles NW of Philadelphia. I would not call that suburban Philadelphia. It is closer to Reading.
It’s as if for some media outlets cities in PA don’t exist unless they are somehow suburban Philadelphia or suburban Pittsburgh. PA is a big state. This woman sounds like a nutcase but Pottstown is actually a rather nice little area.
